Questions for a cosmetic dentist answered by our team
In 2022, fewer people, in general, are suffering from cavities and gum disease. This means that now there is a great deal of emphasis on changing the appearance of a smile, rather than preventing issues with dental hygiene.
This also means that dental surgeries (including ours) are more willing to offer their patients cosmetic dental care.
At Dr Bobby Chhoker’s dental clinic, we have been providing cosmetic dental options to our patients for a long time and our cosmetic dentist will always aim to deliver the aesthetic finish that you desire.
Here, our expert cosmetic dentist answers some of the most common questions that we receive about general cosmetic dental care. And we hope it will help you decide if you want to go forward with one of these treatment options.
What are the most popular cosmetic dental options?
In 2022, our cosmetic dental team has seen a rise in patients wanting to have cosmetic dental care, with the most popular options still being veneers, whitening and even orthodontic treatments, to straighten minor misalignment issues, using invisible aligners.
What is a smile makeover?
Smile makeovers are becoming increasingly popular and a sort of a mix-and-match of cosmetic dental procedures. For one person, their smile makeover may include undertaking orthodontic treatment with Invisalign and then having veneers fitted. For other patients, it may be fitting dental implants and whitening their teeth. It is very personalised and our team can help you to choose the most suitable options for your dental makeover.
Can I have whichever procedure I want?
Unfortunately, no, you cannot simply pick and choose whichever cosmetic treatment you want to have. For instance, if you want to have dental implants fitted our team will need to check that you have a good amount of jawbone and that you do not have any dental decay, gum disease or any health issues which can cause your jaw to deteriorate. Our team will be able to help choose the most suitable solutions for you which will help you get the aesthetic finish that you want.
Will tooth whitening cause my teeth to hurt?
In some instances, dental whitening can cause sensitivity due to dehydrating the teeth, but this is usually temporary and should resolve in a few days. The whitening gels and bleaches that we use at our surgery have anti-sensitivity agents built into them, so when you come to ask for your dental whitening, there should be no discomfort afterwards. If you are looking for a way to whiten your teeth without any sensitivity at all, porcelain veneers may be the best option for you.
Is it expensive?
As with most things in life, the cost of cosmetic dental care ranges in its price with the lower-end options like dental whitening being more affordable for a monthly budget, and the more expensive versions like dental implants potentially requiring financing. Our team at Dr Bobby Chhoker will always aim to ensure that your cosmetic needs are met and can offer to finance options to our suitable patients, which will help you spread the cost of the treatment.
